‘101 Dalmatians’ auditions begin Friday

Dr. Bruce Caldwell

The big stage of the Sampson Community Theatre never seems to get any rest. No sooner has “The Prisoner Of 2nd Avenue” closed with the wonderful closing scene of Mel and Edna Edison (Kevin Kiernan and Erica Miller) sitting in front of a backdrop picture titled “American Gothic” than someone is letting the dogs out. Yes this Friday, May 8, at 5 pm and this Saturday, May 9 at 2:30 pm, L. J. Carr will be holding auditions for “101 Dalmatians” which is the first children’s show of 2015.

These auditions are for youngsters ages 5-18. Eight performances will be given the last two weekends of June. We appreciate Prestage Farms and a Grassroots Grant through the NC Arts Council for sponsoring this popular show. If enough kids show up for auditions, the show may be double-casted with each cast having four performances. Parents should bring any schedule conflicts (out of town dates. vacation plans. etc.) with them to fill out on audition sheets

Once again we thank the small but wonderful cast of “The Prisoner Of 2nd Avenue” (Kevin Kiernan, Erica Miller, Kurk Hudson, Gretta Steffens, Sandra Clifton, and Janet Rawls), as well as director Tom Wilbur, for their six fabulous performances of one of Neil Simon’s most popular comedies which was sponsored by Clinton Appliance and Furniture, Inc. If you failed to see this show, you missed a classic.

Thoughts until next week

• The invariable mark of wisdom is to see the miraculous in the common.

• The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. Te superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.

• Success depends on your backbone, not your wishbone.
