At the young age of three, Brittany Weeks McGuirt made a visit that would mold her future — she made her first trip to the dentist.

McGuirt went to Dr. Ronald Honeycutt and has now joined Honeycutt’s practice as a dentist herself. Even as a toddler, McGuirt said she knew she wanted to be a dentist and one day work with Honeycutt.

Last year, McGuirt began working with Honeycutt part time, but in July, she began full time. For now, she and Honeycutt will be working together in the practice he started 40 years ago.

“She used to tell me that she was going to work with me one day,” Honeycutt said. “A lot of patients have told me that, but Brittany meant it.”

McGuirt graduated from Clinton High School and received her undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She received her degree in dentistry from there and completed a residency at the VA hospital in July.

When McGuirt was in 10th grade, she said she shadowed Honeycutt, only making her decision to follow in his foot steps more of a reality.

“This opportunity is absolutely wonderful,” McGuirt said. “I couldn’t wait to come back to Clinton.”

Many may wonder if Honeycutt plans to retire now that there is a new dentist joining his practice.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Honeycutt said. “As long as Brittany is here, I’ll be here.”

Services will continue to be the same, and both dentists say they hope they can benefit their patients and the community that has given so much to them.

For the first time in many years, the practice is accepting new patients.

McGuirt is married to Jason McGuirt and the couple are expecting their first child.
