Troopers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol and emergency officials responded to a three-vehicle accident near Clinton, which injured a motorist and a passenger.

The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of N.C. Hwy. 242 and State Road 1338. According to reports released recently by the Sampson County branch of the Highway Patrol, several cars were overturned or collided with a road ditch. There were no fatalities reported.

Ancelmo Lopez, of Roseboro, was traveling eastbound in 2006 Nissan, while Jennifer Mooney, of Autryville, was driving a truck northbound on N.C. 242. The third vehicle, a 1995 Dodge van, operated by Candy Jackson, of Salemburg, was southbound on NC 242.

Lopez didn’t stop at the stop sign before attempting to make a left turn on NC 242. Mooney braked to avoid Lopez’s vehicle. Mooney crossed the center line and collided with Lopez before the Nissan went off the road, before overturning and landing on its roof in a nearby field.

Jackson went off the roadway to the right in an attempt to avoid both vehicles, before colliding with a ditch. Jackson’s van landed on its side.

After the impact, emergency officials and tow crews arrived to the scene. Jackson and her passenger, Christopher Paul Jackson, received medical attention for non-life threatening injuries. Jackson was life-flighted to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh. Christopher was taken to Sampson Regional Medical Center by the county’s Emergency Medical Services.

Charges were issued to Lopez for no operator’s license and failure to stop at a stop sign. Jackson was charged with driving while licensed revoked.
