Nathan Chabot, a current agriculture teacher at Clinton City Schools, is running for the Sampson County Board of Education.

He filed at the end of last year for one of three seats available July 1, 2020. Those posts will be decided in the upcoming March primary, with Sandra Carroll, Shannon Wayne Naylor, Eleanor N. Bradshaw and Glenn Faison rounding out the five candidates vying for three open seats.

Chabot has been a classroom teacher for the past 10 years. Before entering into the education realm he graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelors of Science in Animal Science and Agriculture Business Management worked for Prestage Farms as a finishing serviceman for three years.

If elected, Chabot wants to see students get more work based learning opportunities and prepare career ready students for the 21st century workforce. He would like to strengthen school culture, incorporate global awareness, and promote diversity. Most importantly, he would like to see equality and equity opportunities for every student. Chabot believes students are the future.

“I want the finest opportunities for them, along with the best for our teachers and administrators,” Chabot said.

Chabot added that Sampson Schools and board members done countless things that are noteworthy and said a noble cause was writing grants to get SRO’s in each of the schools. Additionally, he would like to work with the county commissioners to get additional SRO’s within the school system. Another area he would like to work with board members updating older schools and promoting career and college ready students and standards.

“It is imperative for our students to be active participants within each of their communities and it is our job to promote leadership,” Chabot said.

Chabot’s family moved from Cumberland County seven years ago and the family is proud to call Turkey home. His mother and twin brother are in education, his father is in production, and his youngest brother is currently serving in the United States Navy. Chabot aims to provide a plethora of knowledge that he has gained from an array of past career and educational opportunities.

“My intentions are to fulfill my duties on the Sampson Board of Education and faithfully serve Sampson County Schools,” he said.

Chabot is a current member on the North Carolina Agriculture Teachers Association, 4-H Advisory Council Committee for Sampson County, Eagle Scout, Past Committee member Clinton-Sampson Ducks Unlimited, and Hunter Safety Instructor for North Carolina.
