Officials from the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department and Sampson County Fire Marshal’s office are currently investigating a suspicious fire and burn victims.

According to a statements released by Sheriff’s Captain Eric Pope, a structure fire was reported around 5:20 a.m., Monday, at 1920 Leroy Autry Road, Autryville. Reports indicated fire departments from Autryville, Salemburg, Roseboro, Clement, Stedman and Herring, along with Roseboro Rescue and Sampson County Emergency Management Services, responded to the fire.

“The nature of the fire is suspicious in nature and currently under investigation by the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office and the Sampson County Fire Marshal,” Pope stated in the release.

Prior to the report of the structure fire, Sampson County EMS was dispatched to 2312 South River Rd., Salemburg, regarding two burn victims. A male and a female with ties to the Leroy Autry Road address were transported by EMS for severe burns.

According to Pope, the investigation into both incidents is on-going and the names of the burn victims is currently being with-held. Additional information is unavailable at this time.
