A local woman found unresponsive at the Budget Inn in Clinton was pronounced dead Saturday after emergency personnel responded to the scene, which was being investigated by Clinton Police detectives Saturday afternoon.

Stephanie Jarman, 42, whose listed address was on Fayetteville Street, Clinton, was discovered unresponsive by her boyfriend Saturday morning. He called 911 at 11:34 a.m. and police and EMS personnel were immediately dispatched, Police Capt. Donald Edwards said.

“Officers tried to do CPR before EMS pronounced her dead,” Edwards said. He said the motel room was being handled as a crime scene by the department’s Neighborhood Improvement Team, but said the death was still under investigation. “We are treating this as a crime scene and we are going through our regular protocol.”

Edwards said he was familiar with Jarman and her family. She had a couple run-ins with law enforcement over the years, but the police captain noted there was no foul play believed to be involved in her death, at least following the initial investigation.

“Her boyfriend was with her and discovered her deceased this morning,” Edwards said from the motel Saturday afternoon. “They had come over to stay here. We don’t suspect foul play, but it’s a little too early. Detectives are still processing the scene and trying to speak with any witnesses and the boyfriend.”
