The rains came this past weekend and kept many of our theater lovers safe at home instead of trudging through the heavy downpours to see the opening performances of “The Prisoner Of 2nd Avenue.”

If you didn’t get to the Sampson Community Theatre to see and hear the talented cast, you missed seeing Edna Edison (Erica Miller) and Mel Edison (Kevin Kiernan) dominate the first act, and then you missed Mel’s brother Harry (Kirk Hudson) and his three sisters, Pauline (Gretta Steffens), Jessie (Sandra Clifton) and Pearl (Janet Rawls) getting together to try to develope a plan to help Mel get over his nervous breakdown.

The action and play moves so fast one member of our audience told me he didn’t know it was possible to have a nervous breakdown as a spectator at a play but that there were so many things happening in Act II he actually began to get a case of the “nerves” worrying about what the value of the theoretical “X” is or was. So bring your own Valium and enjoy a Neil Simon comedy that is considered an adult comedy meaning it may not be appropriate for children.

Advance tickets may be purchased at Matthews Gifts or at Inkspot. Many thanks to Dwight Horne at Clinton Appliance & Furniture, Inc. for their sponsorship.

Thoughts until next week:

• Patience is the companion of wisdom.

• Any fool can know. The point is to understand.

• Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath. And if you have a friend who makes you laugh, spend lots and lots of time with them.
