With the urging of constituents, prayerful consideration and a strong desire to do his part to help the county avoid another tax increase within the next four years, Sampson County Dist. 3 Commissioner Chip Crumpler has decided he will seek election to the seat he was appointed to in late 2024.
Crumpler confirmed Sunday night in a telephone interview that he was going to make that announcement Monday on his social media pages.
“I took into account what people — my friends, colleagues, citizens — were saying to me in conversations I had with them and, coupled with the fact that I don’t want to see the county get into a position where we would need another tax increase in the next four years, I decided to seek election to a full term,” Crumpler said in a telephone interview Sunday night.
Ironically, in September, Crumpler had brought a far different letter with him to the commissioners’ meeting, prepared to read a statement announcing his decision not to seek the seat he had been appointed to, filling the unexpired term of Sue Lee.
“I had fully intended to read the statement at the September meeting,” Crumpler said, “but when I got there I just felt like I hadn’t prayed about it adequately enough, so I put it aside and never read it.”
Instead Crumpler went home and prayed on his decision some more.
