Clinton man indicted for crimes against children

Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Captain Marcus Smith shared on Wednesday afternoon that the Office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina has obtained federal indictments against Shannon Theodore Green, 59 of 300 Belvoir School Road, Clinton, for 10 counts of crimes against children.

The indictment comes after a five-month investigation by the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI’s Charlotte office.

“In early September of 2025, the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office received a report alleging Green had abused a young child,” Smith reported. “This report was investigated by detectives and the Sampson County Department of Social Services, who quickly established probable cause to arrest Green on state charges relating to the allegations.”

During their investigation, detectives identified child sexual assault material on electronic devices in Green’s possession. Detectives then notified the FBI.

The Charlotte Field Office began an investigation into the actions of Green and identified that he had recently moved to the Clinton area from New York, where he had been previously convicted of a sex offense involving a minor. Green lived in the Clinton area for approximately three months before his arrest by the Sheriff’s Office.

The federal indictment formally charges Green with six counts of production of child pornography, one count of transportation of child pornography, two counts of receipt of child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.

Green was served with an arrest warrant issued as a result of this indictment, and is being held in the custody of the United States Marshalls Service.

“The Sampson County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the powerful support and partnership with federal agencies, and the hard work and dedication of the detectives, task force officers, and special agents assigned to this investigation for helping to keep the community, and our children safe,” the press release from Capt. Smith states.
