A fatal accident near Clinton’s city limits has claimed the life of a Sampson teen and injured another.

Speed, troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol noted, was a factor.

According to a press release issued by the patrol, Carson A. Faircloth, 17, of 2057 Pine Ridge Road, was found dead at the scene of the accident.

The driver, Aiden Reams, 18, of 336 Zoar Church Road, Salemburg, was taken to Wake Med suffering from serious injuries.

The two were involved in a one-vehicle accident around 9:18 a.m. Sunday morning on Airport Road, near the intersection of Summertree Court.

According to patrol reports, Reams was driving the 2005 Toyota SUV “at a high speed,” when the vehicle ran off the road out of control.

The driver, the report noted, overcorrected, and the SUV struck a ditch and a tree, before coming to rest near the impact with the tree.

Law enforcement officials said in the release that the two young men were restrained.

The collision remains under investigation.
