A Highway Patrol investigation was continuing late Friday afternoon into a two-vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Dunn man on May 13 on a Sampson County roadway. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the wreck.

Dennis Michael Foye, 48, of Dunn, was identified as the victim in the two-vehicle accident that occurred earlier this week. He was driving a 2017 Ducati motorcycle along N.C. 55 near Green Path Road just after noon Wednesday, when a white Hyundai SUV, traveling west on N.C. 55, attempted to make a U-turn at the same time Foye’s motorcycle was traveling east behind a lead vehicle associated with road construction.

Patrol reports show that when the pilot vehicle slowed or stopped in the roadway, the motorcycle passed the pilot vehicle and accelerated before colliding with the SUV in the eastbound lane.

Following the impact, the SUV was moved from the roadway, while the motorcycle came to rest on the right shoulder, facing south. Foye was ejected during the collision and pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities released Foye’s identity late Wednesday afternoon after next of kin had been notified.

More details about the accident will be provided as additional information becomes available.

Wednesday’s accident marks the 11th traffic death in Sampson County since January. Just four days before the motorcycle accident, three people were killed in a two-vehicle collision on I-40 near mile marker 344 in Sampson County. See related story A7.
