Service with a smile

Last week was Client Appreciation Week at the cosmetology department on the campus of Sampson Community College. The department certainly has not run short of clients. Coupons for free manicures were given out to those who used their services this week.

Sadie Warren might not have been first in line for the coupons but she was probably the first to know about it. This is because not only is she a regular client at the department but she is also the one with the most tenure. The college honored Warren with a plaque to show its appreciation of Warren for her repeated patronage.

“I have been coming here forever,” said Warren. “And I wouldn’t go anywhere else.”

“I’m still kind of surprised that some folks still aren’t aware of the great deals we have to offer the general public,” says Loreta Jones, cosmetology chair. “Clients can come in here and get a great rate for pretty much the same services they can get anywhere else and it also helps our students acquire more real-world experience that can help them after college as well.”

In addition to its cosmetology program, plans are on the drawing board to offer training that focuses specifically on natural hair care as well as another that will concentrate primarily on nail care. The department offers everything from regular haircuts to hair coloring, waves, nails, facials and hair removal services to the public. For more information about these services at SCC, contact Jones at 910-900-4069 or ljones@sampsoncc.edu.

Sadie Warren is surrounded by cosmetology students as well as vice-president of academic affairs, Wanda Capps, business and occupational technology chair Jennifer Wiley, instructor Pharris Shirley, cosmetology Chair Loreta Jones and SCC president Dr. Bill Starling.
