Firefighters from Roseboro, Salemburg, Autryville, Taylors Bridge, Clinton and Beaver Dam, along with the Sampson Fire Marshal’s Office and EMS, worked furiously Friday morning to douse flames at this vacant two-story home at the corner of South East Street and East Jackson Street in Roseboro. Fire Marshal Prentice Madgar said the call came in at 10:04 a.m. and it took some 45 minutes to bring the blaze under control. The structure collapsed. Although the house was vacant, area officials noted that there were times when homeless individuals slept there. A sweep of the structure’s remains did not turn up anyone. Madgar said he didn’t believe anyone was in the house during the fire, however, out of an abundance of caution an SBI K9 will be brought in Monday to do a thorough search. An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
