Council’s action not commendable

Dear Editor,

Recently, the Clinton City Council approved the permitting of microbreweries to be established within the city limits. This step was unanimously approved and apparently was met with joy from all sides. The city of Clinton was compared to other cities in North Carolina and lauded for following their progressive steps.

These actions are not commendable, but are a sign of the times in which we live.

According to Scripture …”in the last days perilous times shall come.” (2 Timothy 3:1). We are in the last days and perilous times are upon us from many directions. These times will get worse and, according to Jesus in His Olivet Discourse, deception will increase (Matthews 24:24).

While I do not know personally the petitioners, councilmen or those with the city planning and zoning board, and I cannot and will not attack their character, this decision displays the progress of Satan’s deception and how deeply rooted it is.

Do we really believe that our economic straits will be corrected by brewing alcohol in Clinton? Do we need sipping and tasting rooms to participate in activities discouraged and condemned by Scripture? Do we really relish the idea of going back to “grog row” where many lives and families were disrupted or destroyed by drinking alcohol in the old “watering holes”? Surely our hope is in someone greater than a bottle.

Proverbs 20:1, “Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.”

Our hope individually and nationally is in the Lord Jesus Christ. Revelation 22:17 “…And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, et him take the water of life freely.”
