The Hobbton Wildcat varsity volleyball team got a senior night 3-1 win over East Bladen Tuesday evening, Sept. 23.

The Wildcats came out hot and excited and took the first game 25-12.

The Wildcats started all seniors in the first game.

After going 1-1 2-2, Grace Harris served her first cycle and got six points on serve. She had one ace. Miley McLamb had two kills and Lola Warren had a kill. All three were assisted by Cooper Bland. The Wildcats were up 12-8. The teams traded out with the Wildcats finishing 25-12.

In game two, the Wildcats lost some of their momentum, never being able to get a good run going. The most points they were able to get was two at a time. East Bladen was getting 3-4 points to the Wildcats’ two. After going around five or six times, the game was suddenly 25-7.

East Bladen had a run at the end and the game got tight again at 24-22. The Wildcats got three at the end to take the game.

Coach Russell Jones commented, “It was a good match. We won on senior night for the second year in a row. The girls’ parents did a wonderful job with events before the match. They had a cookout for them and I think the girls had a good time. All the seniors got to play on senior night. That was fantastic.”

The Wildcats traveled to Rosewood Thursday evening, defeating the home team 3-1. They had beaten their former conference foe in the first matchup at Hobbton.

In the first set, the Lady Wildcats won 26-24; second set 23-25; third set 25-19 and fourth set 25-20.

Hobbton is 11-3 overall and 7-1 in conference play.

The return to the court tonight in an away game against conference rival North Duplin. The match begins at 6 p.m.

Junior Varsity

The Wildcat JV lost 2-0 against East Bladen. The games were 25-14 and 25-6.

Jones said, “It’s been the same story all year. I have inexperienced young ones playing. In the first game, we stayed in there; but they were getting four, we’d get one. We’d get a side out, and we went around eight times. But they were getting two or three to our one and suddenly they are up 25-14.

“In the second game, they had one person serve about a dozen in a row and the game is out of reach. They are young and improving. I can’t complain.”

The Wildcats played a makeup game at Rosewood Monday coming away with a 3-0 win.
