Mintz Christian Academy continued its dominant volleyball season Monday evening, cruising to a straight-sets victory over the Liberty Christian Academy Knights. The Lady Lions controlled the match from start to finish, winning 3-0 and showcasing the poise and precision that have carried them through an undefeated campaign.
With the win, Mintz improved to a flawless 23-0 overall and 11-0 in conference play, further solidifying their position atop the standings.
Head Coach Dan Heinz said his confidence in the team continues to grow as they head into the postseason and prepare for the upcoming national tournament in Ohio.
“I’ve got very high confidence in the girls,” Heinz said. “They’ve worked hard and prepared weekly. We take one game at a time, but I feel like we’re peaking as we move into the conference playoffs.”
Heinz, who coaches at all levels within the Mintz volleyball program, including middle school, JV, and varsity, credited the program’s consistency and culture for its sustained success.
“I have the advantage of being involved at all three levels, so we establish fundamentals when they’re young and continue to refine them as they grow and become more athletic,” he said. “The other big thing is culture. From middle school on, they understand we don’t tolerate drama. We work hard every day, lift each other up, and encourage. It’s 50-50, skills and culture. You have to have both.”
The Lady Lions’ perfect record has been fueled by senior leadership. Jadea James leads the attack, averaging four kills per game, while fellow senior Presleigh Padgett has been a serving powerhouse, pacing the team with 50 aces on the season.
Heinz noted that continuity across different levels of play is a key factor in building strong programs, something that many schools struggle to maintain.
“In my opinion, that’s one of the things that holds back a lot of high schools,” he explained. “High school coaches often don’t have the time or resources to work with the middle schools. When players get to ninth grade, coaches have to change their fundamentals and get them to buy into a new culture. That’s tough.”
He also pointed to local programs such as Midway and Clinton as examples of schools strengthening their systems by connecting middle school and high school development through camps and mentorship.
With conference play wrapping up and postseason action on the horizon, Mintz Christian Academy will look to keep its momentum rolling and its record unblemished as the Lady Lions chase another championship.
