Harrells Christian Academy’s Antonio McKoy has signed his national Letter of Intent officially committing to play basketball with the Division 1 Western Carolina Catamounts in Cullowhee NC for the 2026-27 season.
A 6-foot, 5-inch guard from Salemburg, McKoy has made an “impressive” contribution to the Harrells Crusaders varsity basketball program since joining the team in the 2022-23 season. His elite game-play has been a force to witness throughout his four years at HCA, and McKoy has also pushed himself to deepen his dedication and strong work ethic on travel teams as he plays alongside and against some of the top prospects around, the coaching staff noted from HCA.
While at Harrells, Mckoy has received top recognition, both in the conference and at the state level. He was named CIC varsity boys basketball Player of the Year (2024-25, 2023-24), CIC Tournament MVP (2024-25), and CIC All-Conference (2024-25, 2023-24, 2022-23). He has also been named to the CIC All-Tournament Team (2024-25), and the NCISAA 2A varsity boys basketball All-State Team (2024-25, 2023-24). In addition, he was named the Terry Walls Holiday Invitational Tournament MVP — Amari Latham Bracket (2024-25). In January 2024, Antonio McKoy hit his 1,000 point milestone with the Crusaders, and is projected to reach 2,000 points in this current season.
Last season, McKoy and his team were crowned 2024-25 CIC regular season champions (30-3) and made it to the NCISAA 2A varsity boys semifinals. McKoy had played 89 games as a Crusader and, by the end of the 2024-25 season, he had accumulated 1,957 points. Last season, he had 318 rebounds, 106 assists, 65 steals, and 35 blocks.
When asked to describe McKoy, head varsity boys basketball coach Clayton Hall described him as “a very humble, hard-working person.” Hall said that he is super proud of McKoy. “Getting a Division 1 basketball scholarship, in today’s world, is a rare accomplishment, especially with coaches recruiting the transfer portal every year. Western Carolina is a great spot for him. They have a really great coaching staff and a consistent program.”
Hall admitted that he is looking forward to another year of coaching a Crusader basketball team he described as “very talented and special.” He said he high expectations for Mckoy this year, adding, “I expect Antonio to continue to score at a very high rate. I expect him to be the leader of this team on and off the court. I also expect him to raise his level of play from last year.”
On his commitment day, McKoy was surrounded by family, friends, teammates, coaches and teachers who were thrilled to share in his special day. He thanked everyone for their continued support.
“I am very honored to get to coach Antonio McKoy,” Hall said. “You do not get many opportunities to coach generational talent and I am extremely lucky. I am very happy for him and his family.”
