Coming off a high-scoring shootout win on Saturday, Midway was unable to carry that same offensive momentum into its next outing, falling 5-3 to South Johnston in nonconference play during the Johnston County Easter Tournament.
The Raiders produced seven hits as a team but struggled to capitalize in key moments, allowing South Johnston to maintain control in a tightly contested matchup.
Harrison Honeycutt paced Midway at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Luke Peterson matched that effort with a 2-for-3 performance and a run scored, while Camden Wilson chipped in a 1-for-2 showing with a run.
Additional contributions came from Tanner Williams and Harry Johnson, who each recorded a hit, with Johnson also scoring as Midway attempted to keep pace.
On the mound, Camden Wilson opened with two innings of work, allowing two runs on two hits while striking out two. Ethan Martin followed with four innings, giving up three runs, just one earned, on two hits and two walks.
Despite holding South Johnston to four hits, Midway was undone by a handful of timely plays from its opponent, as well as missed opportunities offensively.
After erupting for 15 runs in Saturday’s contest, the Raiders found themselves in a much tighter game this time around, where execution in key situations ultimately made the difference.
Midway will look to regroup and rediscover its rhythm at the plate as tournament play continues.
