The Hobbton Middle Wildcats baseball team upped their record to 3-0 in the conference with a 6-3 win over Roseboro-Salemburg Middle Wednesday afternoon.

Wildcat coach Chuck Lively said, “I’m glad we have started swinging the bat better throughout the lineup.”

For the Wildcats, Ben Langston was 2-for-3 with one base on balls and scoring two runs. Richard Warren was 2-for-4 with one run scored. He also had eight strikeouts. Dillion Hall was 1-for-3 with one run scored and Daniel Britt was one for three.

The Wildcats then shifted their focus as they hosted Midway Middle on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats bested Midway this time around, winning by the 5-2 score.

“It’s always tough when we get together,” commented Hobbton coach Chuck Lively. “Our guys played a great game.”

For the Wildcats, Ivan Fernandez was two for three with two runs scored. Dillion Hall was one for three with one run. Ben Langston, Conner Grimes, and Martin Holloman were all one for three at the plate.

The Wildcats pitched three pitchers throughout with Daniel Britt starting and culminating four strikeouts. Ben Langston relieved Britt and finished with two strikeouts before Richard Warren finished the game with four strikeouts.

The Wildcats are now 4-0 in conference and will host Union Middle on Monday.

High School Soccer

The Lady Wildcats soccer team resumed Carolina 1A Soccer action on Thursday as they welcomed James Kenan into Newton Grove. The Wildcats fought hard but it was the Lady Tigers that took home the victory, winning 2-0.

Despite the loss, Hobbton coach Jonathan Jacobs praised his team’s effort. “I think we took a step in the right direction tonight. I’m looking for better things to come,” Jacobs said.

With the loss, the Lady Wildcats fall to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference. They will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting North Duplin.

High School Softball

The Hobbton Wildcats softball team chalked up another win Thursday night, taking out James Kenan 18-2 in four innings. After a somewhat slow start, the Wildcats had a big 2nd inning, rallying from a 2-1 deficit and exploding with an 8-run inning to go up 9-2.

Sarah Suggs pitched three innings and recorded five strikeouts.

“The field stood behind her to make the outs when we needed them,” commented Hobbton coach Katie Hall. “We were able to get the bat on the ball tonight and ran the bases well. We had nine total hits and 11 stolen bases across the lineup.”

With the win, the Wildcats are 3-1 in the conference and 8-1 overall. The play North Duplin at home on Tuesday night.

High School Baseball

The Hobbton Wildcats took a tough loss on Thursday night, falling 6-0 to the visiting James Kenan Tigers. Despite the loss, Wildcat head coach Chris Carroll had nothing but praise for his team following the game.

“We continue to grow as a team. We have a great group of guys who are working hard and continue to develop. I love how there is no quit in our guys and how they are dedicated to finding ways to put the bat on the ball,” Carroll said.

With the loss, Hobbton falls to 3-7 overall and 1-4 in the conference. They will be back in action on Tuesday when they host North Duplin.
