The Hobbton Wildcats girls soccer team made the trip right up the road to face off against their rival in the Lakewood Leopards on Thursday night. The Lady Wildcats won a game in which the Leopards fell behind quickly, 2-0.

The Lady Wildcats pounced on Lakewood early and often throughout the first half, using a chip shot with 18 minutes to go in the first half to get on the board. The Leopards did not look particularly motivated in the first half as they allowed two goals alone in the first 40 minutes. The second goal was a beautiful shot that gave Hobbton a commanding lead going into halftime.

Lakewood played much better in the second half, but not good enough to break through the Wildcat’s strong defensive front to score. Although they did take a few shots at the goal, the Lady Leopards just couldn’t find the back of the net. Hobbton kept the Leopards at bay all game and impressively never allowed Lakewood to score. Even with several shots at the goal, Lakewood was simply unable to overcome the slow start that put them behind in the first half, and Hobbton shut them out 2-0.

Lakewood Leopards head coach Jennifer Wuester acknowledged that her team’s slow start was likely the reason for the loss.

“We came out in the first half and didn’t play and had two goals scored on us and in the second half we came out and played and had none scored on us. Honestly, our team right now depends entirely on their effort,” Wuester said.

Lakewood falls to 3-8 overall with the loss. The Leopards take the field again on Tuesday in an away game against the Gators of Spring Creek in hopes of snapping their seven-game losing streak.

Hobbton Wildcats head coach Jonathon Jacobs praised the Wildcats for their stellar play.

“This was our second game of the week and our goal was to be undefeated this week, which we have accomplished. I’m hoping we can take this into the weeks to come.” Jacobs said.

Hobbton improves to 6-6 overall.
