Hobbton was able to get Senior Night wins over Lakewood in soccer and softball, but fell in baseball.
Soccer
The Hobbton Lady Wildcats’ soccer team celebrated Senior Night with a 3-1 win over visiting Lakewood.
The Wildcats struck early on a goal from the left by senior Norma Vallejo. Maggie Langston would strike twice more in the first half. Krystal Martinez had an assist for Langston’s first goal and Denisse Sada was credited for an assist on Langston’s second goal.
Lakewood would get their only goal in the first half also. The game ended in a rain shower that started with about four minutes left.
“I’m proud of the way the we played,” commented Hobbton coach Jonathan Jacobs. “We had a great response to how bad we played on Monday night. The girls sent the seniors out on the right note. The only thing I didn’t like was we didn’t score on more of the chances we had; but, that says a lot about Lakewood’s goalie.”
Baseball
The Hobbton Wildcat baseball team were disappointed on their Senior Night with a 9-3 loss to Lakewood.
“I thought we did really well all around,” commented Lakewood coach Jay Faircloth. “Josh (Carter) was phenomenal on the mound. Our defense was very supportive of him and we hit the ball well. The key was, we produced the runs when we needed to. I’m very proud of my boys. It has been a great season.”
The team finished 9-7 overall and 8-6 in the conference.
Lakewood’s leading hitters were Zach Tanner, who was 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI; Chandler Ray, 3-for-4, with two RBIs; Josh Carter was 2-for-3; and Tristan Holmes went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Softball
The Hobbton Wildcat softball team finish their season on a loud note defeating the Lady Leopards of Lakewood 11-1 in six innings with their Senior Night win.
“We played a heck of a game,” commented Hobbton coach Katie Hall. “My girls hit the ball almost every time at bat. Zaylea King made some key plays for us at second base. Kameron Lee, at third base, made some key plays that could have potentially scored some Lakewood runs. We ended very well. They had only one run and we had 11.”
