The Dark Horses Lady tennis team fell just short of victory in their most recent match against Goldsboro, as the Cougars clinched a narrow win, 5-4.
“It was definitely a tough loss, losing three of the matches in tiebreakers,” said head coach Robert Jones. “Hopefully we will get to return the favor when they come here in a couple of weeks.”
The two teams split singles matches as Isabella Faison, Mattie Byrd and Kendall Spell all won their respective matches. Though the Horses lost they still managed to find success in the doubles matches as well. Winning the lone doubles court match up for the Clinton Dark Horses was Byrd and Rebekah Byrd.
“Mattie Byrd played well in singles and doubles yesterday,” said Jones. “She was very consistent and her confidence is growing daily in her game.”
After the loss the Dark Horses fall to 1-2 in the conference and were supposed to have their next matchup Wednesday afternoon against James Kenan. The match was postponed, with the rescheduled date yet to be announced. It has yet to be determined if this match will be made up though it most likely will as it is a conference match.
