The Hobbton Middle School girls soccer team opened the season with an 8-0 win over Union Middle School Monday afternoon.
“This already may be the hardest working girls team I have ever coached at the middle school level. Most of these girls have never played in a real game and they played outstanding,” said Hobbton Coach Burnett.
Hobbton held a 3-0 lead at the half thanks to Shanty Garcia’s two goals and Claudia Guillen’s one goal. The Union goalkeeper would make a number of diving saves to keep her team in the match but to no avail.
The Wildcats would tack on five goals in the second half thanks to Makayla Esquivel with two goals, Mireya Esquivel with one goal, Jasla Ramos had a goal and Nicole Hernandez had the last of the goals with one. Alejandra Hernandez, Fernanda Garcia and Guadalupe Feliciano would combine as goalkeepers for the shutout.
Hobbton’s next game is at Roseboro-Salemburg, Thursday at 4 p.m.
