Lakewood turned in a strong performance in first track meet of the season. They hosted Neuse Charter School and Rosewood High School, on Wednesday, for the first track and field meet of the season.

The Leopards turned in a strong showing with Bryan Owens and Travis Crawford taking third and fourth, respectively, in the men’s 100-meter dash. In the women’s 100-meter dash event, Miyah McCall of Rosewood High School took home first. Rodrema Anderson of Lakewood received third place.

In the men’s triple jump, Leopard Chandler Ray took home first. Dre Rich also claimed third in this event for LHS. Michaela McPhail and Labria Williams took home second and third, respectively, in the women’s triple jump.

The high jump was Lakewood’s best event. Lakewood claimed the top three men’s spots, with Chandler Ray jumping his way to first, while Kevin Holley and Christian Logan tied for second. Emily Jackson and Michaela McPhail tied for first in the women’s high jump. In shot-put, Luke Brewer won first, while Dylan Ivey turned in a strong performance with a second place finish.

“Very pleased with our team’s effort,” said Darren Hulen, Lakewood High School’s athletic director and head track coach, about his team’s performance. “This was our first meet of the season and was a good start, but we have a lot of room for improvement as the season moves on.”

Lakewood’s next track meet will be on Monday at home against Heide Trask High School of Rocky Point and Triton High School of Erwin.
