The Clinton women’s soccer team didn’t have the best weekend of play, losing twice on the road at Wilson. Taking on two tough teams, they were downed by West Carteret and Ashley, held scoreless in two 3-0 matches.
The Lady Horses took on both these teams as part of the Brittany Showcase, the first opponent being the now 4-1 Lady Pirates of West Carteret. Clinton was simply outplayed in the second half.
The Horses came out playing well against the Pirates, with neither team being able to gain any ground over the other. With the first 40 minutes played through the game sat at a stalemate with both teams holding a goose egg, the score 0-0. It all changed in the second period when East Carteret ripped off multiple unanswered goals that eventually gave them the three point win.
Edye Carr did what she could for her team having a pretty good day after defending against 10 shots on goal, she saved seven.
The Lady Dark Horses had little time to relax as they took on an equally strong team the following day, this time in the undefeated Screaming Eagles of Ashley. Going down by three again, Clinton lost this matchup in the reverse order getting behind after being outplayed in the first half.
The Screaming Eagles basically sealed their win after jumping out and getting ahead of Clinton with back to back unanswered goals through the first 40. While the Horses cleaned it up in the second half they couldn’t find the answers to get back into the match.
With the second frame ticking to the end, Clinton’s ladies kept Ashley out of the net for the entire period. It did little to help their cause as they couldn’t get on the scoreboard again, dropping their second game without a goal as well.
Carr did her best to defend the net, ending the day with four saves after taking on eight shots on goal.
After consecutive losses at the Brittany Showcase, the Lady Dark Horses drop to 2-3-1 on the season. They’ll seek to recover on Tuesday when they take on rival team James Kenan in conference play on the road.
