The Wildcats of Hobbton took on Neuse Charter in conference action on Thursday in baseball, softball and soccer. While Hobbton teams came up with huge wins on the baseball and softball diamonds, 11-1 and 18-3, respectively, the soccer team fell short in the end, 2-0.

Baseball

The Hobbton Wildcats baseball team got their first conference win and the second win of the season Thursday night, taking down Neuse Charter 11-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Wildcats got on the scoreboard early and the bats were hot. Jackson McLamb was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs; Brayden Herring was 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI; Greyson Rogers 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored and four RBIs; Preston Daughtry was 2-for-4; Jordan Pearsall was 1-for-3 with three RBIs, Thorn Bauser was 1-for-2 and Aaron Beasley was 1-for-2 with a run.

“It was a good game all around by the Wildcats,” commented Hobbton coach Chris Carroll. “Greyson Rogers played a tremendous game both offensively and defensively. He was solid on the mound collecting the win. He had two triples and several RBIs. Braydon Herring had a big game at the plate also. I want to say how proud of these guys (I am) and the hard work they have put in at practice. We needed a good win tonight; we got one so we are ready to go next week. I’m just proud of my guys — it was a great effort.”

The Wildcats travel to cross-county rival Union next Tuesday and host North Duplin on Thursday, Hobbton is now 3-5.

Softball

The Hobbton Wildcat softball team got a big conference win over Neuse Charter, rolling to a lopsided 18-3 victory.

“It was good to give some of the girls who don’t get a lot of playing time a chance,” said Hobbton coach Brian Christopher. “This is their first season with a softball team. They are developing a program. Next time, I think we will play them a little differently next time we meet. It was a perplexing situation. I just didn’t know what to think of the game.”

The Lady Wildcats continue to roll, improving to 6-2 on the season. They will face rivals Union on Tuesday.

Soccer

The Wildcats weren’t able to share in glory on Thursday as they lost 2-0 to Neuse Charter. The Cougars took the early 1-0 in the first half. With Hobbton unable to generate any goals, they lost by two after another goal from the visiting Neuse Charter in the second half.

“We just made too many mistakes,” commented Hobbton coach Jonathan Jacobs.

This loss keeps them without a win thus far this season, dropping them to 0-6-1. They’ll seek their first win again on Thursday when they host North Duplin.
