Clinton tennis atop standings

The Dark Horses tennis team continues to torch their competition this year, continuing those dominant ways on Wednesday. Taking on the undefeated Goldsboro in a match that determined first place in the conference, Clinton breezed to another victory, 8-1.

Now halfway through the conference season, Clinton is clicking on all cylinders. Though they took the day by a big margin, the match was a bit closer than the score indicates.

Clinton basically gave themselves the win with their consistently strong singles play, winning all six singles courts. The difference this go-around, they just didn’t do it all in straight sets as in previous matches. Cooper Brewen, Peter Darden and Camden Thompson all claimed victory in three sets, while Lukas Jerez, Trevor Leggett and Wesley Cowand wrapped up singles play, prevailing in straight sets.

Doubles were close contests as well, with the dynamic duo of Brewen and Thompson going down on court one in a tiebreaker. Goldsboro, while forcing another tiebreaker, didn’t claim a win in the remaining matches. Darden teamed up with Leggett on court two to take a win, then Cowand and Jerez finished out the day after their win in a second doubles tiebreaker set on court three.

Clinton goes into the Easter Break undefeated at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in conference. They take to the courts again on April 10 in a key rematch against Goldsboro.
