The Midway Raiders baseball and softball teams are having an outstanding year. From finishing atop the conference during the regular season and now into the playoffs, they’re still rolling.

The baseball team currently sits at 18-5 overall, their only blemishes during conference play coming from Clinton early in the season, 3-2, and late in season to Spring Creek, 5-4. They’ve played so well in fact that they have claimed at least seven games by mercy rule.

Their record allowed them to finish on top of the conference which earned them the No. 6 seed in the 2018 2A Baseball State Championship. The championship run for them has yet to be extinguished as they now are into the third round. They got to this point after narrowly escaping round one against Bertie, 6-5. Which was followed by a complete blowout in the second round over Roanoke Rapids, 17-0.

They travel to face the No. 3-seed Randleman for the third round on Tuesday, game starts at 7 p.m.

The softball is far from being overshadowed by baseball as they to claimed the top of the conference and sit at 18-5 overall and 11-1 in conference. Their only loss to a conference opponent coming from the Bulldogs of Wallace 11-8. On top of that their last loss came during mid-season in a tournament to Washington, they are now on a 14 game winning streak.

They to have also earned to many mercy rule wins to count, all this giving them the No. 8 seed in 2A Softball State Championship. They’ve had their hands full in the first couple rounds taking down Ayden-Grifton just 3-0 and barely squeezing by Richlands with a seventh inning walk-off win, 1-0.

Nevertheless their state title chase is still alive as they prepare to travel for their toughest opponent yet. They’ll face the No. 1-seed South Granville on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
