CHS basketball jamboree this Saturday

Though the basketball season for the 2017-18 year ended months ago the Clinton Dark Horse women’s team is already back in full swing, with an annual jamboree featuring a dozen teams set for this weekend.

Known as the Clinton High Lady Dark Horse Basketball Jamboree, the event will be held this Saturday, July 14. This year’s jamboree will have the Horses playing host to teams from all over North Carolina, with a total of 12 teams competing against one another.

The teams include will be North Brunswick, James Kenan, West Carteret, Kinston, Westover, West Craven, Gray’s Creek, Topsail and North Lenoir. The remaining teams will be Sampson County’s local schools which include Union, Lakewood and host Clinton. All games will be played in Clinton High’s main and auxiliary gyms.

The games will be running over a span of eight hours starting in the early morning. The Horses kick the event of against Kinston in the main gym with Gray’s Creek facing Topsail in the auxiliary gym at 9 a.m. From their four teams will being playing every hour, two in the main and two in the aux gym, until the final games at 5 p.m.

The rules will follow the same course as they did in the 2017 jamboree and there are five to be noted.

First, there will be two 20-minute halves with a running clock, and warm-up time is three minutes with a halftime. Second, each team will be allowed two full timeouts a game. Third, the clock will stop during the given timeouts. Fourth, the last two minutes of the second half will be a regulation game with both teams in the 1-and-1. Lastly, if fouled in the act of shooting one point, one free throw; if the shot goes into the basket, it counts and a free throw is awarded.

All players, coaches and managers are expected to enter together and admission for spectators will be $6 per person.
