Clinton standout forward, recent graduate and UNC Pembroke commit Dewan Lesesne made quite a name for himself during his time with the Horses. He showed how he earned a spot on a college roster recently at the 2018 East-West All-Star game.
Held at the Greensboro Coliseum, there were a total of 19 basketball players from all across North Carolina. For the West team they had a total of nine players and the remaining 10 were on the East, the squad for which Lesesne played.
Nearly 3,000 people got to witness why Lesesne was one of the captains for the most talented roster the Dark Horses have ever had. Lesesne ended the night with the most points on either team and was the key player for his team on offense. It was something his former head coach, Randy Jordan, noted as well.
“He was the most impactful player on the floor, changed the game. It was a real pleasure to watch him play one more time. I will miss him as a player, but more so as a person,” said Jordan.
Lesesne finished the night with 25 points, on 12-15 shooting, with a total of three rebounds, five assists and four steals. He also played 27 minutes the second most on the team. He scored 17 of those points on 8-9 shooting in just the first half.
Despite all of his and the team’s efforts, the East still lost the game by two points thanks to a layup in the final moments of the game, making the final 106-104.
The game was played closely by the end of the first quarter with both teams playing at an even level with the score tied at 28 all. The East picked up the pace in the second quarter going for two more than in the previous quarter with 30 and the defense held the West to only 20. With the second quarter concluded the East held the lead 58-48.
The West clawed its way back into the game with their performance in the third. Going for 32, they held the East All-Stars to half that, only allowing 16 and taking the lead 80-74. Then the game was back tied with about nine seconds left in regulation. However, the East failed to find another basket as the West All-Stars, Kody Shubert, hit what would be the game winning layup with 3.5 seconds left. The East outscored the West 30-26 in the fourth but wasn’t able to holding on dropping the game by two.
