The Lady Spartans hosted the Clinton Dark Horses in a volleyball match Tuesday. The Spartans lost in three consecutive sets to the Dark Horses increasing Clinton to 9-1 overall.

The Lady Dark horses immediately took the lead in the first set. The Spartans tried to keep the match close but Clinton slowly pulled ahead winning 25-14.

The second set started with a Spartan lead, but was soon taken by the Dark Horses. After this turnover, the Spartans couldn’t get back in the game and Clinton took the set by a score of 25-13.

The third set was very close and intense. The Spartans fought hard as the lead went back and forth between Clinton and Union. However, the Lady Dark Horses pulled out the win, 25-21.

“It was a good game. We made a lot of mistakes that we will have to work on tomorrow to be ready for the next match. They did well playing their new positions since one of our starters has been injured,” Clinton’s head coach Jennifer Edgerton said of her team’s performance.

The JV Lady Dark Horses also won their match. Union took the first set 20-25. The Dark Horses came back to win the second and third set, 25-17 and 25-12, respectively.

Union’s head coach, Krystin Moore was very proud of her team’s effort. “The girls played impeccable defense against the hard hitting Dark Horses. We were careless in some areas which was the cause of a loss of points,” she said.

“The girls had wonderful serves and it was a great ball game we just couldn’t pull it out for the win,” Moore continued.

For Union, Katie Hunter and Alison Alphin both contributed 4 aces while freshman, Sabrina Newkirk had 1 ace. Mia Bronson and Destiny Robinson both had 3 kills and Katie Hunter had 2.

Stats were unavailable from Clinton at press time.

The Lady Dark Horses will host the West Bladen Knights while the Spartans will travel to take on the Pender Patriots this Thursday.
