The Hobbton Wildcats Baseball team participated in an Easter Tournament at South Johnston over the weekend, taking on the Comets of Clayton High School on Saturday. It was a nail-biter of a game from start to finish and one that even required extra innings. In the end, though, the game was won by Clayton, who rallied past the Wildcats in the eighth inning for the 6-5 win.

Clayton struck first in the bottom of the second inning, plating one run for the 1-0 lead.

Hobbton, though, struck right back and tied the game up in the top of the third to make it 1-1.

The Comets, though, countered with two more runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to go ahead 3-1.

In the top of the fifth, though, Hobbton was able to plate three runs and take their first lead of the game at 4-3. The score sat there until Clayton tied the game back up in the bottom of the seventh at 4-4 to force an eighth inning.

There, the Wildcats kept the heat on the Comets, scoring another run to take the 5-4 lead as the game headed to the bottom of the inning.

Late heroics shined bright for Clayton, though, as the Comets plated two game-winning runs to win the game in extra innings, 6-5.

For Hobbton, they had nine hits on the game.

Junior Esquivel, Brayden Herring, Jordan Pearsall and Grayson Rogers all had two hits apiece. Daniel Britt had one hit.

With the loss, Hobbton is now 9-6 overall. They were back in action on Monday. A full rundown from that game can be found in Wednesday’s edition.
