CHS Tennis to play for state title

The Clinton Dark Horses men’s tennis team on Wednesday secured its first-ever berth to the 2A State Championship match. Clinton travelled up to Durham for the battle and left as champions, winning the East Regional Final over the North Carolina School of Science and Math by a close score of 5-4.

In singles competition, the Dark Horses earned a split with the Unicorns with Alexandre Haran winning 6-2 and 6-1, Camden Thompson winning 6-1, 6-0, and Peter Darden taking his match, 6-1, 6-4. Haran then teamed with Cooper Brewen to win a doubles court 10-1 and Thompson teamed with Darden to clinch the final match 10-7 for the 5-4 victory.

With the win, Clinton improves to 21-1 on the season and advances to take on the Salisbury Hornets on Saturday at the Burlington Tennis Center for the 2A State Championship. Match time is 9:30 a.m.
