Hobbton’s soccer team took to the road for their playoff opener, and earned a 5-0 win over the 16 seed, Research Triangle High School on Wednesday. The Wildcats entered as the 17 seed in the East Region, but are playing their best soccer of the season at the best time.

Victor Aguille put the Wildcats up first, and for good when he scored with about 12 to play in the opening half. The Wildcats took this lead into halftime, then came out aggressive in the second half.

In attack mode, Christian Vega scored 3 goals in a 7 minute span, and Javier Sanchez added another in the next 3 minutes to give Hobbton their final 5-0 win.

“Once we scored that first goal, it really boosted us and it got us to playing more aggressively,” asserted Hobbton’s head coach Jonathan Jacobs following his team’s win. “Now we face a tall challenge facing the top seed in the region, Franklin Academy, but we are playing our best soccer and are really kind of peaking at the right time. We will go and be ready to compete.”

Hobbton’s trip to Franklin is currently scheduled at 2 p.m. on Saturday. That game time is not official yet, so for more information follow Adam Capps @ac4birdie and the newspaper @SampsonInd on Twitter.
