Clinton’s boys basketball team improved to 2-0 on the season after their 20 point win over Westover in the second day of the Dark Horse Classic. The Dark Horses won the game 67-47.
The Dark Horses jumped out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter, and never let up, keeping momentum on their side throughout the game.
Clinton built on their lead in the second quarter, taking a 34-20 lead into the halftime locker-room. They continued to play well and keep a good lead in the second half, as they coasted to the 20 point win.
EJ Howard had another good game for the Dark Horses. He scored 23 points and hauled in 8 rebounds. Xavier Howard had 11 points, and JJ Robertson had 8 points.
Logan Batchelor once again did a nice job of distributing the ball for the Dark Horses. He dished out five assists on the night.
A key stat for the Dark Horses on Saturday was that they were even in the rebounding numbers with Westover. The Westover front line was 6’8, 6’7 and 6’7, which was a lot bigger than Clinton’s.
“I have to give credit to our guys,” said Dark Horse coach Randy Jordan following the win. “We really did an outstanding job of boxing out, especially on the weak side. We were able to keep them off the offensive glass, and that was really big for us.”
It was another good shooting night for Clinton as they knocked down 6 3-point field goals, and went 5-7 at the foul line.
“It was a dominant win,” continued Jordan. “We are maturing, and getting better. I like this group of guys. They are playing hard, they really like each other, and they are a lot of fun to coach. We are young right now, but we are working hard to keep improving.”
Clinton also had a great night from Dewan Lesane. He had 7 points and 6 rebounds. Their entire bench gave them something, which Jordan was pleased with as well.
“We want to thank everyone for coming out and supporting the Dark Horse Tip-Off Classic this year. We are 2-0 and are looking forward to our game with Jacksonville-Northside on Tuesday,” finished the Clinton head coach.
Clinton at Northside will feature a top ten match-up in the 2A state ranks. Tip for this game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
