The Union Spartans got their season going with a win on Monday night, a 53-31 handling of Princeton. The Spartans’ road win marked the first win in as many games for first year head coach Keagan Warren.

The Spartans got off to a good start, and took a 12-7 lead early in the game. They were able to build that lead to 25-18 by halftime, thanks to strong defensive play.

Union then built their lead even more in the third quarter, as they led 34-24 entering the final period. In the fourth, they did a nice job of finishing things out, outscoring Princeton, 19-7.

Devin Henry and Donta Chavious each had nice outings in the first game of the year, as they both scored 11 points, being the lone Spartans in double figures.

Samuel Crumpler added 7 points and gave Union some really good minutes on the night.

“I am really pleased with the way our guys played here in the first game,” said Union coach Keagan Warren. “I thought we got good contributions from everyone that played, and this really was a good team win. We are looking to keep things going and kind of build on this game and the way we played tonight.”

Union is now 1-0 on the young season. They play Hobbton on Tuesday night for their first home game of the season.
