The Lady Crusaders came out Friday to take on the Cape Fear Academy Lady Hurricanes in their annual Pink Out game to support the Kay Yow Cancer Foundation. The Harrells team took a nice win over the Lady Hurricanes, 44-29.

The Lady Crusaders came out strong in the first quarter and took an early lead. Defensively, they kept Cape Fear away from the basket allowing only one shot to find the net. Harrells ended the quarter by a score of 10-2.

In the second quarter the Lady Hurricanes managed to add more points to their score but it was not enough to match the Lady Crusaders who kept a steady pace to maintain the lead. At the end of the half the Lady Crusaders kept control, 16-9.

The same intense play was seen from the Lady Crusaders as they entered the second half of the game. They continued to shoot the ball well and keep the Lady Hurricanes limited in baskets, 28-11.

During the fourth quarter the Lady Hurricanes tried hard to make a comeback in which they came within a few points. However, the Lady Crusaders managed to push back to widen the gap for the lead again and take the victory, 44-29.

Sierra Votaw led the Lady Crusaders with 17 points. Haley Bowles added 13 points and had the most baskets from behind the arc with 3. Mikaela Stroud also contributed 7 points and Abigail Blanchard had 5.

The HCA head coach, Wayne Cannady was pleased with his team and saw various aspects that contributed to their win tonight. “I thought our girls played well. It was a hard fought and they made a good game of it. The game even got close in the fourth quarter but our immense amount of senior leadership was what I think was the difference in the game tonight.”

The Lady Crusaders will travel to take on Fayetteville Academy next Tuesday.
