The Clinton Lady Dark Horse softball team took care of business in the second round of playoff action on Saturday night, as they took down the South Granville Lady Vikings under the lights of the Darkness Soccer Complex at Clinton High School.

Clinton used five second half goals to win by a margin of 5-0.

After returning from halftime with the score still at nothing apiece, Alaina Capps was able to get her squad on the board by scoring a goal at the 44:38 mark. The goal was assisted by Ashlyn Williams.

Shortly after, Capps set up the second Dark Horse goal as she found Nicole Spell, who kicked it past the goalie into the back of the net to boost the score to 2-0.

The next three goals were all scored by Capps, giving her four for the game. Her second goal was unassisted at the 52:10 mark, her third at the 63:48 mark was assisted by Williams again, and her and Clinton’s final goal was scored at the 73:07 mark, and was assisted by Katey Yang.

The win gives Clinton another trip into the third round of the state playoffs. They are set to host the game, as the North Carolina School of Science and Math are set to make the trip down to Clinton.

The victory also helped Clinton’s record move to 15 games above .500, and gave them yet another 20 win season. They ran through the Four County Conference with a perfect 14-0 record, and are looking to breeze through the state playoff schedule as well.
