Lady Wildcats look for conference trophy; Lady Horses continue dominance
The Carolina 1A conference tournament begins this week with the Hobbton Lady Wildcats currently waiting for the next match on a bye week. The Lady Horses continue to be the dominant force in the SAC-6, sitting undefeated at 8-0.
Clinton (12-7)
Since returning to conference play, the Horses have made quick work of the opposition, rarely playing beyond 40 minutes as they have trounced their league foes again and again.
This week they will be returning to non-conference teams as they face the Richmond Raiders at home on Tuesday and on the road against the Seaforth Hawks on Friday. Clinton is polishing up their techniques and fundamentals before the grueling state playoff tournament begins, with the Lady Horses having some unfinished business as they chase the state crown.
Harrells (7-7)
The Lady Crusaders have only two games left in the regular season, facing two conference rivals as they try to solidify their No. 3 spot in the standings.
Sitting at 3-5 in the league records, the Crusaders are looking keep the spot as the Oakwood Eagles are vying to take their spot. They will face off at home on Tuesday. Their next opponent to cap off the season is the Kerr-Vance Lady Trojans who are at the bottom of the conference, remaining winless against conference opponents. The Trojans will be looking to avenge their previous loss to the Crusaders as they were beatdown, 9-0.
Hobbton (14-2)
The Lady Wildcats have had another stellar season on the pitch, dropping only two games this year, both of which were non-conference foes.
This week they await at the top of the Carolina 1A, looking to face either North Duplin or Rosewood. Both teams have been on the receiving end of Hobbton’s might, getting shutout in either 9-0 or 7-0. The Lady Rebels have only had a single does of the Hobbton onslaught and fell, 9-0, while Rosewood has been punished twice in a 9-0 and a 7-0 loss.
The Lady Wildcats are anxious to take to the pitch this Tuesday on their quest for not only conference gold but have their eyes on the state crown as well.
Lakewood (0-15)
It has been tough sledding for the Lady Leopards this season, finding themselves winless to close out the regular season.
In the ‘23 season, Lakewood has only managed to score five goals with one of those coming against Union who they will have played on Monday on the road. This week they will have faced a tough Lady Spartans soccer team who has beaten them down in both of their encounters, 10-1 and 6-0.
Midway (1-13-1)
The Lady Raiders have a long week with three games against conference opponents. So far, they’ve struggled against the SAC-6, taking only one win, a tie and three losses.
Before the week closed out they lost a tough game against the Red Springs Lady Devils in a close one, 5-4. They will have had their rematch on Monday, before their last pair of games against the St. Pauls Bulldogs. Midway will be looking to add to the win column facing St. Pauls with neither team have a glaring advantage over the other.
If the Raiders win out this week and West Bladen falls in their final stretch, Midway will secure their third place spot.
Union (10-6)
The Lady Spartans finished out their year, firmly holding third place in the Carolina 1A. This week they will be facing the Lakewood Leopards at home.
Their last encounter with the Leopards was a beatdown, as they took them down by over five goals in both matches, 10-1 and 6-0. With Neuse Charter on the horizon, the Lady Spartans are looking to make it a quick one against Lakewood and silence the Lady Cougars.
Their last encounter with Neuse they came close but fell by a pair of goals at 5-3 and are looking to avenge that loss for a chance at conference gold.
