Hobbton Middle School recently held its athletic awards ceremony, honoring athletes. Two were given special honors as Athletes of the Year, including Richard Simpson as the Male Athlete Of the Year and Aubree McLamb as the Female Athlete of the Year. Simpson had an outstanding year in two sports — football and basketball. In basketball, he played forward and center, scoring a total of 518 points during his middle school career, including 346 points in his eighth grade year alone. In football, he was the leading wide receiver. McLamb is a three-sport athlete. She was outstanding in volleyball and basketball, where she played forward, and in softball, where she pitched and played first base. She shared pitching duties with Nellie Bass, another outstanding softball player.
