Local businessman Hugh Caison believes in giving back to the community. As a strong supporter of the college and many other organizations throughout Sampson and Duplin counties, Caison contributes yearly to benefit local students.
Caison is the owner of Caison Enterprises which operates seven locations in Clinton, Warsaw, Newton Grove, Kenansville, Wallace and Beaulaville.
“Hugh has always been a supporter of so many of our SCC programs,” Dr. Bill Starling, college president, said. “He generously gives to the annual fundraiser. He provides meals for summer camps for school age children when the college partners with the public schools for technology camps. He has helped establish the Develop the East Project as a successful project by providing one of the earliest pledges for the Foundation’s capital campaign.”
Each year Caison partners the Clinton McDonald’s with the college and the Foundation. According to Starling, “SCC Day” allows Caison and the McDonalds corporation to contribute a portion of that day’s sales to fund student scholarships. For the last two years, that contribution has been $2,500.
“Supporting local students, and SCC, is exactly in line with what we believe in as Caison Enterprises, and what my family personally believes in as community members,” Caison stated.
Through the years, Caison has not only sponsored the “SCC Day” at the local restaurants, but has given his time and other gifts to the college’s Foundation board and the school.
“It’s hard to overstate Hugh’s importance to SCC,” Starling added. “His early service on the Foundation’s Board of Directors helped encourage the participation and support of other local businesses. In addition to his generous gifting, he brings his own affable and encouraging manner to any of the meetings and discussions about the growth and development of SCC.”
Caison also carries the support of other locals like Steve Stefanovich, Dr. Paul Viser and Bill Fulton.
“Hugh has become an amazing asset to our community,” Stefanovich attested. “His attitude of giving back is unparalleled. I am truly thankful for his generosity. He is making such a difference.”
Viser, who points out that Caison was a student at Sampson Community College and truly believes in giving back and being dedicated to serving the school.
“The SCC Foundation is a group of publicly-involved citizens from all over Sampson County who regularly deploy their time and resources for the good of Sampson Community College,” Viser said. “No one on the Board of Directors better exemplifies this ideal than our own Hugh Caison. Himself a former student of the college many years ago, his adult life has been, and remains, marked by an authentic dedication to service. The students of SCC have been the beneficiaries of Hugh’s zeal.”
While McDonald’s is known nation wide, Caison has a passion for Sampson County and its people.
“McDonald’s may be one of the largest corporations in the world, but when you deal with Hugh and the folks at Caison Enterprises you’re treated like friends and neighbors,” Fulton expressed. “Hugh has made a tremendous investment in the community, not just financially but in heart and spirit.”
