Chase ends in arrest

A 50-year-old Creedmoor man was jailed and his vehicle seized by county deputies Wednesday following a chase from Green Path Road in northern Sampson toward Harnett County.

After the chase ended, Benjiman Mann, 1529 Olive Circle, Creedmoor, was taken into custody and charged with felony flee to elude, driving while license revoked, speeding, resisting a public officer, fictitious registration, reckless driving, unsafe passing and failure to yield for a stop sign.

According to Sampson Sheriff’s Capt. Marcus Smith, the arrest came on the heels of the chase, which began when deputies attempted to stop a gray Ford Explorer on Green Path Road near Harnett-Dunn Highway for a fictitious registration.

The driver, Smith said, failed to yield to the officer and led them, instead, on a pursuit towards Harnett County.

That chase continued onto North Spring Branch Road and towards Erwin, where the driver turned into a field off Bunnlevel Road and the driver fled the vehicle on foot.

Mann was taken into custody without incident shortly after.

He was placed under a $10,000 secured bond.

Smith said his vehicle was seized under the “Run and Done” Law and stored at Deans Towing in Dunn.

The “Run and You’re Done Law” was enacted by the N.C. Legislature in 2011. It is intended to criminalize speeding away from the police to stop them from doing their job.
