Are these the last days?

By Gilbert Owens - Contributing columnist

The Bible often uses the term, “in or during the last days.” This term has been talked about a lot in the last few months because of current events. Please allow me to set the record straight in terms of what the Bible really says about the “last days.”

First of all, the Bible makes it perfect clear, there are two sets of “last days” and we cannot get them confused. There is (1) the last days of the church and there is (2) the last days of the earth.

The Lord revealed to Paul a description(s) of what it will be like during the last days of the church. The last days of the church refers to what will be going on in the church prior to Jesus Christ coming back to earth for the church He has built.

The New Testament says a lot about what will be going on in the church immediately before Jesus returns. The best passages can be found in I Timothy 4 and 2 Timothy 3. The Holy Spirit has revealed that in the latter days, many believers will depart from the faith because of giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils. Two things must be made clear. Today there are seducing spirits in the church and today there are doctrines of devils being utilized in churches as doctrines of God.

The Apostle Paul warned in Acts 20:30 that false teachers will arise from within the church. These false teachers are controlled by seducing spirits whose sole purpose is to seduce believers to willfully turn away from the truth of God’s word. You can easily tell if a person is being controlled by a seducing person when they believe the only place where they can find God is at their church. You can also tell if a pastor is under the control of a seducing spirit when they tell their congregates that their church is the only place where they can be fed and it’s best they do not attend or listen to other pastors or teachers. That is why I strongly encourage my members to attend other churches so I can protect myself from falling into the hands of a seducing spirit. That is also why I purposely do not have worship services every Sunday. A seducing spirit is only interested in getting people to follow them or to join their group or to support their programs.

This may come to a surprise to you but the church is also full of demons who promote the doctrines of Satan. Satan’s main doctrine is designed to distort the Word of God and to distort the functions of the church as ordained by Jesus Christ. Many churches are now operating under the wisdom of men and their doctrines instead of operating under the wisdom of Christ and His doctrine. In fact, it has gotten so bad that many believers believe the way their church is doing things is the only way a church is to operate. They have been completely blinded by the doctrines of devils and by seducing spirits.

In 2 Timothy 3, it says that in the last days perilous times shall come. In ,that context, the Bible is actually saying perilous times shall come to the church. In other words, in the last days the church will be exposed to harm, danger and loss. All of this will come about because the following will be taking place in the church. Men shall be lovers of themselves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful and unholy. That is why about the only time you see a large group of men in church is on Men’s Day. That is why the church has allowed women to usurp the authority that God has given to men.

The Bible also says men will be without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those who are good. That is why homosexuals are sitting in the pulpit and leading the choir in praise and worship. That is why even some pastors lie and gossip about other pastors. That is why many in the church are jealous over those whom the Lord is using to do a good work. The passage and others like it go on to suggest that in the last days of the church there will be more concern about money than saving souls and spreading the truth. There will be more concern about having big programs instead of having big ministries. There will also be great efforts toward learning without never being able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Let me ask you. Are these the last days of the church???

Jesus told us about the last days of the earth throughout scripture. In Matthew chapter 24, Jesus said many shall come in my name saying they are Christ and as a result will deceive many. This has already happened and will continue to happen. Jesus said we will hear of wars and rumors of wars. This is happening. Jesus said nations will rise against nations and kingdoms will rise against kingdoms. This is happening now. Jesus also said there will be famines, pestilences and earthquakes. This too is also happening. Jesus said believers will be hated of all nations for His name sake. This too is taking place. Jesus said many will betray and hate one another. Even now there is so much hate in this country and in the world. Jesus said many false prophets shall arise and deceive many. Many Christians, even in our community are being deceived by so many who claim to be prophets of God. Jesus goes on to say many other things about the last days of the earth but the bottom is that all He has said is taking place right now. Again, let me ask you, are these the last days of the earth?
